Petroleum paraffin wax YaV-1 is a solid white or yellow viscous substance, odorless and tasteless, insoluble in water, but highly soluble in organic solvents: gasoline, chloroform, ether. Product of oil refining. The flash point of protective wax YaV-1 is 230°C.
The protective properties of wax for rubber products are due to the creation of a film on the rubber surface that prevents its contact with the ozone contained in the atmosphere. The film is formed when the wax contained in the rubber mixture comes out to the surface and its subsequent crystallization. The crystal structure of the wax has a density that significantly reduces the access of ozone to the material. The high inertness of the wax ensures the duration of its protective action.
