Potassium carbonate is an average salt of potassium and carbonic acid, a low-toxic compound with the formula K2CO3. Outwardly, it is a solid substance, which consists of small crystals, the color is white, the taste is brightly alkaline, there is no smell. It dissolves in water without difficulty, moreover, it does not lend itself to dissolution in ethyl alcohol at all. Better than baking soda, it absorbs hydrogen sulfide from gas mixtures.
