Antimony pentachloride is a colorless or light yellow liquid. It dissolves well in water. Smokes in moist air. In solution with chloroform, when water is added, it forms crystalline hydrates .
It is used as a catalyst in organic synthesis (freons), a chlorinating agent, for the production of other catalysts and in medicines. Also used to produce high purity antimony .
