Zinc chloride is a white substance, which may also have a slight shade of a different color, consisting of crystals or flakes. A solution of zinc chloride has a light yellow color, concentrated solutions are characterized by an acidic reaction due to the formation of hydrochloric acid.
In the solid state, the substance is hygroscopic, able to dissolve in water, and does not possess combustibility. Melting of zinc chloride occurs when reaching 322°C, boiling - at 722°C.
The production of anhydrous zinc chloride is based on the evaporation of zinc dissolved in hydrochloric acid or placing it in a liquid state in a current of chlorine and subsequent heating. According to the physico-chemical properties, zinc chloride grades are distinguished: A, B - 1st and 2nd grade.
