Antimony

Antimony is a chemical element that is in the V group of the main subgroup. The element has atomic number 51 .

The simple substance antimony is a semimetal of silver-white color with a bluish tint, coarse-grained structure. There are four metallic allotropic modifications of antimony that exist at different pressures, and three amorphous modifications (explosive, black and yellow antimony). In its pure form, it is considered one of the brittle metals .

Application area

Antimony alloys are widely used in the industrial sector, tk. due to antimony, their hardness increases and, under normal conditions, the oxidation process does not occur. Alloys are used in the production of semiconductors, bearings, batteries, etc.

Due to its ability to expand when solidified, antimony is used in the production of "printing alloy". It well fills forms for different types of fonts and makes clear prints .

Antimony is widely used in cosmetology and medicine as a remedy and dye for eyebrows and eyelashes, for eye diseases (conjunctivitis and other infections) .

Antimony compounds in the form of oxides, sulfides, sodium antimonate and antimony trichloride are used in the production of refractory compounds, ceramic enamels, glass, paints and ceramic products .

Antimony sulfide is one of the ingredients in match heads .

Antimony telluride with bismuth telluride is used as a thermoelectric material .
