This compound has not been isolated in free form. Cobalt(III) sulfate is soluble in water, the solutions are blue in color. Co 2 (SO 4 ) 3 exists as a 18-hydrate crystalline Co 2 (SO 4 ) 3 •18H 2 O which is bluish green crystals. The crystalline hydrate decomposes at temperatures above 30°C .
Cobalt(III) sulfate is a strong oxidizing agent .
Used as a titrimetric reagent for the determination of nitrites .
