Sulfanilamide has the form of a granular or crystalline powder of white color, odorless and has a bitter taste. Solubility of streptocide:
- soluble in boiling water, glycerin, hydrochloric acid, in solutions of caustic alkalis;
- sparingly soluble in water, alcohols, ether and acetone;
- insoluble in chloroform, benzene.
Used in the pharmaceutical industry as:
- main raw materials;
- reagent for the determination of nitrites;
- an intermediate product for the manufacture of other drugs;
- antibacterial agent.
Also used in veterinary medicine.
