When moisture is absorbed, the silica gel first changes to purple and then to pink. All these phenomena indicate the need to replace it with a fresh batch.
It is chemically inactive, tasteless and odorless, non-toxic and non-aggressive. Due to the huge internal surface area, it can adsorb a large amount of water. Its size and shape always remain the same, silica gel does not enter into chemical reactions and does not form by-products.
The chemical formula is x SiO 2 * y Al 2 O 3 * n H 2 O.
