Resorcinol is a solid colorless crystalline substance. It is easily soluble in water, alcohol and acetone, but in some organic solvents (for example, benzene, CS 2 ) it is poorly dispersed.
The main use of resorcinol is as a disinfectant in the treatment of skin diseases. Resorcinol is also used in industry in the production of synthetic dyes, plasticizers, and some polymers.
