Represents light yellow crystals which are insoluble in cold water, but with hot - reacts. The melting point of the substance is 2270°C.
Used in glasses that absorb IR radiation. In addition, it is used as a neutron absorber in control rods in nuclear reactors. The oxide catalyzes the dehydration of primary alcohols acyclic aldehydes and ketones .
