Tin(IV) oxide is a chemical compound found as the mineral cassiterite. The substance is a white crystal, but with impurities it can have a different color. It is insoluble in water, can be reduced by hydrogen or carbon to tin. It is also a wide-gap n-type semiconductor .
Used as a pigment, catalyst, sensitive layer of gas sensors. It can be used in the production of thermally and chemically resistant glasses .
