Cobalt oxide (II, III) has the form of a black crystalline substance, which is not lost either in water or in other solvents. When heated in air, it is oxidized and reduced by hydrogen. The melting point of cobalt (II, III) oxide is 1810°C .
Application :
- as a catalyst for various chemical high-temperature processes;
- as a blue pigment;
- in the production of batteries;
- in the production of glass;
- for alloying steels;
- in the production of non-linear oxide-semiconductor resistors;
- as a reagent that neutralizes flue gases from toxic nitrogen oxides .
