Chromium is a chemical element of group VI of the side subgroup, located under the atomic number 24 .
The simple substance chromium is a bluish-white solid metal. Chromium is sometimes referred to as a ferrous metal. The element is stable in air due to passivation, but for the same reason it does not react with sulfuric and nitric acids .
Due to the variety of colors of its compounds, chromium got its name from the Greek chróma - color, paint .
Application area
The main use of chromium is as an additive in alloyed steels and alloys. The presence of chromium increases their hardness and corrosion resistance .
Also used as wear-resistant and beautiful electroplating (chromium plating process) .
Chromium, in addition, is used in various industries: chemical, agricultural, aircraft construction, in the manufacture of spacecraft and gas pipes .
