The substance has the appearance of greenish-blue crystals, which are readily soluble in water and ethanol. The salt forms a crystalline hydrate of the composition PrCl 3 •7H 2 O. It reacts with alkalis forming a hydroxide.
It is used to obtain metallic praseodymium and in the process of oil cracking.
