This salt is a product of interaction of yttrium with hydrochloric (hydrochloric) acid. Yttrium chloride is colorless, highly soluble in water and ethanol, crystals. It forms two crystalline hydrates of composition YCl 3 •H 2 O and YCl 3 •6H 2 O.
Yttrium chloride is used to purify yttrium.
