Salt has the appearance of white crystals, moistening and oxidizing in humid air, but relatively stable in dry air. It enters into an exothermic reaction with water. Aqueous solutions are blue in color. It is a strong reducing agent .
It is used as a catalyst in organic synthesis, in chromium plating and for the production of technical chromium .
