The tellurium dioxide compound is a crystalline solid. It occurs in two modifications, as a result of which the crystals have a different color :
- α-TeO 2 - colorless;
- β-TeO 2 - yellow.
In the molten state, it is a red liquid. Insoluble in water, but soluble in acids and alkalis .
Tellurium dioxide is used in the production of glass with high refractive indices and as an acousto-optic material .
