D-panthenol is a colorless to pale yellow viscous liquid that is easily miscible with water, alcohol and propylene glycol, but is poorly soluble in glycerin and insoluble in vegetable fats and oils.
D-panthenol is a derivative of pantothenic acid (vitamin B5), because of this it has another name Provitamin B.
D-panthenol is a small molecule and has a low polarity. These properties provide deep penetration into all layers of the skin, and when applied externally, it is quickly absorbed and processed into pantothenic acid. It provides hydration, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.
